As a McKenzie Friend and Family Court Consultant, I provide practical support to people who are representing themselves in family court in the UK. The assistance available depends on your circumstances, your documents and the stage your case has reached.
Depending on your case, I can help prepare forms such as C100, C2, C79 and FL401, along with supporting documents and statements.
Family court can get expensive, especially while you’re dealing with separation, money worries or a dispute over your children. McKenzie Friend Service gives you an affordable option if you want to represent yourself but need help preparing.
I help you understand the paperwork, organise what matters to your case and prepare for the court process. You can get help with forms, evidence, statements, bundles and hearing preparation, without automatically committing to full solicitor representation.
A McKenzie Friend is not a solicitor or barrister. I can help you organise documents, take notes and give quiet support at a hearing, subject to the court’s rules. I don’t automatically have the right to conduct litigation or speak for you. That needs the court’s permission. Some cases need specialist legal advice or formal representation, and I’ll tell you if yours does.
My journey as a McKenzie Friend began with my own experience of the Family Court.
In my own child arrangements case, I was a litigant in person. I secured a 50/50 shared care arrangement, and felt the emotional, practical and financial pressure first-hand.
I received valuable guidance from a charitable organisation. It showed me how much difference practical help makes when you're learning court procedures and preparing your case.
I began volunteering my time. As more people asked for help, I knew this was the work I wanted full-time, and founded McKenzie Friend Service, a service focused on affordable, family court help.
My own experience helps me understand what you may be facing. Since 2016, I’ve supported people with a range of family proceedings, from preparing a first application to getting ready for court hearings.

Child arrangements are a big part of my work, and my own experience shapes how I approach them. You may be worried about contact, where your child will live, existing arrangements, or how to put your position to the court. Every family is different, and your child’s welfare stays at the centre of the court’s decisions.
I help you organise the information, prepare your paperwork and understand what’s ahead. The court decides based on the evidence in each case, so I never promise an outcome.
